ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Two teens were rescued Friday afternoon after becoming stuck on the mudflats between Fire Island and Kincaid Park.

Rescuers were sent to the site at around 3:30 p.m. and an Anchorage Fire Department dive team rescued the two victims from the water about an hour later.

One victim was rescued from the water about 200 yards from shore, while the other victim was stranded on high land between Fire Island and the Kincaid shore, according to AFD Capt. Blake Lindsoe.

"The main thing is that if you're gonna take risks, you should at least see what the risks are and be educated on it and then you could make some good decisions," Lindsoe said. "Just to go out there into that water is where people get into trouble and can get killed"

Along with the dive team, an Alaska State Trooper helicopter was also dispatched. The victims were reached by rescuers by the time the helicopter arrived on the scene.

Both victims refused medical attention at the scene. The victim rescued from the water was checked for hypothermia.

"At first I was just like boy those guys need to swim a little faster, but then I kept thinking that he's not gonna make it," Nancy Winniford, a witness at Kincaid told Channel 2.

AFD did not release the identities of the victims.
