When she woke up about an hour later Johnson told police Pepper was blue, no longer breathing and cold to the touch.
Sarah told police she blamed herself for Pepper’s death because she didn't swaddle her before putting her down to bed.
The infant was transported to a local hospital where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
On August 11, the Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on the infant. The cause of death was inconclusive and the investigation was continued.
On August 12, a family friend of Johnson told APD that Johnson had confessed to her sister that she had actually suffocated the infant with a plastic bag, which she had on the child's head for 30 minutes.
Court documents reveal that Johnson was overwhelmed and her family was worried she was suicidal.
Johnson had stopped taking Prozac during her pregnancy and while breast feeding.
Two days before Pepper’s death Johnson wrote on Facebook about becoming a mother, "almost every moment of everyday, I wish I had made a different choice."
Court documents said Johnson told her sister and her mother about killing Pepper. In a text message she wrote, "I wont fess. I will never allow ben, (her husband) to know what I did. I prob wont tell psy either, I need you me andmom to take this secret to the grave."(sic)
Johnson was arrested Tuesday evening.
Johnson is charged with one count of Murder in the First Degree. Her bail is set at $500,000, plus a third party custodian.
