ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The UAA cross country teams won't be sneaking up on anyone this season. In fact, if you believe the coaches of Division II, the Seawolves will probably have most people in their rear-view mirror.
The UAA women's team enters the season ranked 5th in the Division II coaches poll. Under Michael Friess, the ladies finished 6th at the 2010 NCAA championships and return senior standout Ruth Keino, the reigning UAA Athlete of the Year.
The UAA men are ranked 12th in that preseason poll, and bring back juniors Alfred Kangogo and Micah Chelimo. Both UAA squads are ranked second among west region schools. A year ago, the Seawolves made history by becoming the first school to sweep the men's and women's titles at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet.
UAA opens the season with a rare home meet, Thursday September 1st against Slippery Rock.
