Anchorage Man Arrested on Child Pornography Warrant

September 01, 2011|By Chris Klint | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police arrested a 26-year-old man who worked for a vendor at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Wednesday on an arrest warrant for possessing and distributing child pornography.

APD says Daniel K. Baumgartner came under investigation in April, when he sent images depicting the sexual abuse of young children over the Internet to undercover Detective Mark Thomas with the department’s Cyber Crimes Unit.

Thomas says investigators used a search warrant to obtain Baumgartner’s name and address from his Internet service provider. A second search warrant served on Baumgartner’s residence in May yielded a variety of computers and digital media, containing hundreds of pictures and videos depicting young children being sexually abused.

According to Thomas, investigators took months to examine the files -- some of which were videos more than an hour long -- both cataloging illegal contents and trying to identify and locate the abused children.

Baumgartner's arrest warrant, issued Monday, included one count of distributing child pornography and two counts of possessing child pornography.
