ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The UAA Seawolf Men's Basketball teams continues to get better in the off season. Thursday the school announcing that the Green and Gold have added Division I transfer Abebe Demissie.
A 6-6, 215 pound power forward, Demissie played for North Idaho College in the 2010-11 season. NIC was a strong program last year finishing 23-9. Demissie averaged 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds a contest. The power forward can also step back and hit the three, Demissie knocked triples at a 43 percent clip for NIC.
According to Sports Information Director Nathan Sagan it is expected that Demissie will vie for the starting job in the four spot. In the press release from UAA coach Rusty Osborne said "He can pass and is a skilled ball-handler, which is important in our system at the power forward position. He can also guard in the post or on the perimeter. Abebe has played at the highest level in high school, and his experience at the college level will give us another veteran leader on the court."
Abebe Demissie is the fourth member of the Seawolves incoming recruiting class joining fellow Division I transfer Marcus Jackson (PG, 6-2, 185 Sacramento, Calif. / Arizona State University) Division II transfer Colton Lauwers (G, 6-3, 235, Anchorage / Dimond HS / Adams State) and freshman Christian Lecband (F, 6-5, 185, Nome HS)
The Seawolves lost three starters from the team that finished 24-10 a year ago and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
