Alaska Film Meets Its Fund Raising Goal

September 08, 2011|By Jordanna Anderson | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The first feature film shot in Alaska by an Iñupiaq has raised enough money to make it to the big screen.

Producers of the movie "On the Ice" say more than 800 people helped them reach a goal of $80,000.

The move debuted at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in January and then went to Berlin, where it won the Best First Feature Award, as well as the Crystal Bear at the 2011 Berlinale.

But despite the awards and other recognitions it received, producers of the movie weren't able to find a distributor, so they started a fund raising campaign.

Producers say the money will go to creating a film trailer, paying for regional and national advertising, along with other marketing efforts.
