September 24, 2011|by Kari Bustamante

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Region IV cross country running championship at Kincaid ended in team victories for both Service and West Anchorage.

Leading the boys was Service senior Max Romey with a time of 16:24.  Romey is the top ranked returner from last year's meet, and the most anticipated runner from the conference.

Service had five runners in the top ten, giving Cougars the team win with a score of 20.  Chugiak, South Anchorage and West Anchorage round out the top 4 teams headed to state.

The girl's race came as a shock to some.  West freshman Lydia Blanchet pulled ahead in the last seconds of the race, passing Service's Jenette Northey.  Blanchet says, "It was a close race, I kind of stayed behind and then on the last hill...just gave it everything else I had in me."  Blanchet's race time was 18:54.
