Seawolves Tie Golden Knights In Kendall Classic Opener

October 07, 2011|by Kevin Wells

The UAA Seawolves put on an entertaining show in the 2011-12 season opener, rallying twice to salvage a 4-4 tie against Clarkson in the Kendall Hockey Classic.  Although the Seawolves won a tie-breaking shootout, the shootout is for tournament tie-breaking procedures only.  The game officially ends in a draw.  The Seawolves outshot the Golden Knights, 41-23 in regulation and overtime.

Matt Bailey, UAA's top returning goal scorer with 10 last season, scored the tying goal for the Seawolves at 12:42 of the third period.  UAA trailed 2-0 early in the second period before scoring three straight to take a brief lead over the Golden Knights.  Mark Pustin, Mickey Spencer, and Daniel Naslund all buried goals in that second frame.  Spencer and Naslund each finished with a goal and an assist while Mitch Bruijsten added two helpers.

The tie enables UAA to extend its unbeaten streak in season openers to 11.  The Seawolves are 9-0-2 in opening games since 2001.
