How: Why are owls associated with Halloween? Find out from Ginamaria Smith, a volunteer with the Bird Learning & Treatment Center. She will bring her live great-horned owl to the Nature Center this Halloween. Kids: come in costume and receive a treat! Free program; $5 parking for non-members.

How: Bring your family in full Halloween costume for this fun and safe trick-or-treating event! Enjoy a spooky stroll along our decorated exhibit and trail areas. The animals will be watching you as you trick-or-treat at stations set up throughout the zoo grounds. Zoo staff and volunteers will be in full Halloween spirit and costume. Visit the haunted house and explore creepy hands-on items. $5 for annual passholders, $7 for nonpassholders, 2 and under free.

Where: Raven Hall – Alaska State Fairgrounds

How: This 10th annual fundraiser benefitting the Mat-Su Special Santa Program, working with Toys for Tots, is an indoor trick-or-treat family fun event from 3 to 8 p.m., Oct. 31 at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. Organizers have added a few new games this year to the 35-plus games children play for candy. The concession stand has pizza, hot dogs, nachos and drinks. Cost is $5 or a new, unwrapped toy per person. No stuffed animals, please.
