"Apparently some passersby were coming down and found them," said AST Sgt. Randy McPherron. "No one actually saw the crash, so we don't know at this point how long they were in the water."
Willow Fire Chief Lance Barve says rescue crews from both the Willow dive team and Sutton responded to the scene.
At about 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol worked with a tow truck to pull the Toyota SUV out of the water.
"We're going to impound the vehicle and do a vehicle inspection in a more controlled environment," McPherron said. "Just check the tires and the other parts of the vehicle, mechanical functions of the vehicle to see if there are any contributing factors from that."
Much of Southcentral Alaska was caught in winter storms Thursday night, with whiteout conditions reported at points along the Glenn.
The Glenn was closed in the area for a few hours, and re-opened around 9:40 p.m. Troopers encourage motorists to exercise extreme caution driving in winter conditions.
