Alyeska Ski Resort Announces 2011 Opening Day

November 16, 2011|By Chris Klint | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Powder pilgrims still have a week to wait, but a winter ritual will arrive before Thanksgiving: the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood says its ski slopes will open next Wednesday, Nov. 23.

According to a Wednesday press release, the resort’s Tram, Chair 6, Chair 4, Bear Cub Quad and both Magic Carpet lifts will open next week for ski and snowboard operations from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Officials say October and November’s storms have yielded current snow depths of 62 inches at the top of the mountain, 27 inches midway down and 17 inches at the base. Early-season precautions remain in effect, and visitors to the slopes should use caution and be aware of obstacles.

The resort’s snow hotline at 907-SKI-SNOW (907-754-7669) offers details on snow levels and conditions, and visitors are encouraged to call before driving to Girdwood.
