Seawolves 6th, 8th At Nationals

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — For a second straight season both the men and women of UAA put together top 10 finishes at the NCAA Division II National Championship Cross Country Meet. Both clubs entered the meet undefeated but were unable to run the table for the whole season, the Ladies finish 6th and the Men finished 8th in the final event of the year.

The Seawolf women’s team will go into the UAA record books with a program best 152 points at the NCAA race.  Augustana won the National Championship with 75 points as a team.  Three members of the ladies team earned All-American honors, Ruth Keino 9th (21:35.0), Miriam Kipngeno 32th (22:11.3), and Ivy O’Guinn 33th (22:12.2).  For both Keino and Kipngeno it’s the third time they have earned All-American honors, it was the first for sophomore Ivy O’Guinn.  This is the fourth straight season the UAA women have finished in the top 9 at the NCAA Meet.

In the Men’s race only Micah Chelimo would earn the All-American designation, his third.  Chelimo finished 15th overall with a time of 31:38.4.  As a team the men tied their program high with 290 points.  At the front of the pack there was no question as to which school would win, Western State placed all 5 of their scoring members in the top 12 including Ryan Haebe and Tyler Pennel who took 1st and 2nd in the race respectively.
