ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The UAA Seawolf Men’s Basketball team earned their first win of the season at The Great Alaska Shootout Saturday afternoon in a 77-63 victory over Division I UC Irvine.
The Green and Gold got a game high 28 points and 12 rebounds from big man Taylor Rohde. The senior center had been the focus of defenses this entire weekend but against Irvine the star dominated. After the win Rohde said “we came in today, more of a pride thing, we wanted to go out, show everybody what we could do, for the fans and all of Alaska.”
Lonnie Ridgeway (11 points), Travis Thompson (13 points), and Abebe Demissie (13 Points), all contributed offensively with double digit performances but it was the team’s effort on the defensive end that pleased Coach Rusty Osborne who said “to hold any team let alone a division one team to 19 points in a half especially the second half is a testament to our guys.”
