SOLDOTNA, Alaska — 46-year-old Robert Washburn of Seward was killed in a head-on collision on the Seward Highway, according to Alaska State Troopers, on Monday night.

The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. near milepost 13, after the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received a call of the collision.

Troopers say Washburn was travelling southbound in a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck, when 31-year-old Sarah Brueckner of Moose Pass lost control of a 1993 Cheverolet Suburan crossing the center line.

“Road conditions were a factor,” said Megan Peters, AST spokesperson.

Washburn was not wearing his seatbelt and was entrapped in the truck, according to troopers. He was extricated and treated at Providence hospital in Seward, where he later died due to injuries from the crash. His body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.

Brueckner was driving with seven children as passengers. A 2-year-old was treated with minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported.
