FAIRBANKS, Alaska — An Alaska State Trooper collided with and killed a moose near Fairbanks on Thursday.
According to AST, Sgt. Tim Schoenberg was headed south on the Richardson Highway near Mile 358 in his assigned 2010 Ford Expedition SUV at about 6:30 p.m. Troopers say a moose crossed the highway and Schoenberg collided with the moose.
The moose died in the crash and Schoenberg was not injured. Initial damage to the vehicle is estimated at $5,000, according to AST spokesperson Megan Peters.
The moose was salvaged by a charity.
