ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The National Weather Service says hurricane-force winds hit Southcentral Alaska over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, Reggie Joy woke up to find thousands of dollars in damage done to her home on the hillside.
Joy says the wind gusts knocked out a closet window designed to withstand winds of 130 mph. Shards of glass were scattered throughout the walk-in closet and Christmas gifts and clothes, among other things, were drenched in rain water.
One of the glass panels of her deck was also smashed, after a wind gust smashed the grill into it and shutters were torn off her home. The family spent most of Sunday cleaning and repairing what they could. Joy says her neighbors also fought the elements -- one of them had part of his roof torn off.
