ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A snowmachiner was found dead near near Hooper Bay Wednesday afternoon after he apparently became disoriented in a snowstorm, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Bethel troopers were told at about 10 p.m. Wednesday that Hooper Bay resident Paul Kaiser, 58, was overdue from a snowmachine trip between Hooper Bay and Chevak.
Ground searchers found Kaiser’s body at about 12:40 p.m. the next day, about three miles north of Hooper Bay on the bank of the Manayagavik River. Investigators believe Kaiser traveled past Hooper Bay and died of exposure.
No signs of foul play were discovered, and Kaiser’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Kaiser’s next of kin have been notified.
