Kikkan Blasts Competition

December 12, 2011|by Lauren Magiera

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Another outstanding win for Kikkan Randall as she hit the gas pedal and abandoned all competition in her dust, winning her second straight FIS Cross Country World Cup Sprint in the Swiss resort of Davos. Randall, who finished first, easily swept every heat winning by 1.7 seconds over Russian Natalia Matveeva.  The win put Randall in third behind Marit Bjoergen in the World Cup overall and has a 240-194 lead over Matvevva in the spring standings

Kikkan said, “It was a lot of hard racing today. I had to save a little bit of energy for the end, keep a good position near the front and go like crazy at the end.”  Kikkan also says she is looking forward to next weekend in Rogla.

Holly Brooks had a good weekend, qualifying 18th but losing out in the quarterfinals to finish 23rd in points.
