December 12, 2011|By Todd Walker | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Update: 8:30 a.m. - Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centers are open on schedule at all sites except for the Brandon Street location.  That site is currently closed due to the power outage.  Parents are asked to check back at 10:00.  If power has been restored, that site will open at that time.

The Anchorage School District has announced that schools will be closed today -- Monday, December 12th.

Heidi Embley, a spokesperson for the district says the district reversed a decision that was made around 6:00 a.m. this morning, to hold school as scheduled.  The school superintendent made the decision to cancel school, after numerous reports of deteriorating road conditions.

Despite the ASD school closures, the Camp Fire USA Alaska council says it will provide a full day program for youth who are enrolled at designated schools.
