Snow Ends & Temperatures Drop After Another Fierce Winter Storm

December 12, 2011|By: Mitch Sego | Channel 2 Weather

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — What a weekend!  Near 100 mph winds, heavy rain, snow, mixed precipitation, and water flowing down the roadways and creating small ponds in intersections.

We're not done with it yet.  Snow showers will continue this morning along the Northern Cook Inlet region, including the Matsu and Anchorage metro.  Skies will begin to clear from west to east over the state through tonight as this low lifts northeastward into Canada.  Wrap-around moisture will keep snow in the forecast near the Alcan into tomorrow.

Snow totals of 6 to 12 inches have been reported in Anchorage.  This is sitting on top of slush leading to very slick road conditions.  Anchorage School District canceled classes and other schools and institutions have done the same.  Enjoy the day off, but do take it very slow on the roads.  Slush will freeze up tonight as lows drop into the single digits and teens.  Patchy fog may develop in areas, as well.

Rain showers continue in the Panhandle, snow will up to 6 inches will fall today in the Interior, and skies will gradually clear our west.

Quieter and cooler weather weather is in store for Southcentral Tuesday and Wednesday.
