Woman Charged After Driving SUV into Home

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage Police Department charged an Anchorage woman Wednesday with DUI and assault after crashing her SUV into a home on Lake Otis Parkway in October.

APD arrested 49-year-old Brandie Thurow-McGrew after blood test results showed she was legally drunk and was also under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash.

Police said was driving her Dodge Durango south on Lake Otis, approaching Northern Lights when she struck a retaining wall on the west side of the street.  

Her vehicle crossed four lanes of traffic, over a curb, over a fence, and crashed into the house located at 2531 Lake Otis Parkway, destroying the front of the home.

The homeowner, 37-year-old Margarett Nadine Lafever, suffered a broken left ankle and a broken right foot.

Thurow-McGrew was booked into the Anchorage Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
