Vehicle Pedestrians Crash: Anchorage Police Explain Delay in Arrest

January 03, 2012|By Jackie Bartz | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The driver police say hit two pedestrians with his truck early New Year's Day remains free, and has prompted many member of the public to ask why. Tex Daniels II, 21 of Chugiak, has not been arrested, and charges have not been filed.

"We know that it is frustrating to the public, but it takes time for the blood analysis," Anchorage Police Department Lt. Dave Parker said.

At the time of the crash, investigators took a blood sample from Daniels and it was sent to the state crime lab, according to Parker.

"The blood is sent out also to see what might be on board and that is a very important point," Parker said.

Because the tests are looking for alcohol, legal and illegal drugs, results can take anywhere from six weeks to four months. Samples are first sent to the state crime lab, and then for further drug testing are sent to a lab in Washington state.

"We need to be very cautious about our investigations and make sure that we are charging a person appropriately, if they have done something wrong, if they have not done something wrong," Parker said.

Daniels does not pose a flight risk, or a risk to the community, according to APD.

Channel 2 sent a message to the Facebook page of a Tex Daniels from Chugiak, but received no response.
