Snow Is Back in Southeast Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Another day of cold weather will plague mainland Alaska.  Coldest readings will near the Alcan, around Tok and Eagle.  Highs may not climb above 30 below.  Anchorage will have highs in the single digits, with sub-zero highs for east sides of town.

Northeast winds near 50 mph are in store for the Mat Su.  Higher gusts are possible.  Strong winds will continue through the weekend.

Nearly all of the state will be mostly to partly sunny.  Patchy ice fog will develop for Interior valleys.  The Aleutians may see a few snow showers with mostly cloudy skies.

The one exception when it comes to blue skies is Southeast.  A major winter snow storm in the Gulf of Alaska will pull through today, with another storm pulling in Sunday.  This is a dynamic storm.  It is pressing to the north against strong high pressure.  The result are very strong winds.  Expect winds around 20 to 45 mph with gusts to 70 mph near Skagway.

Abundant moisture is streaming in ahead of the low.  Heavy snow will fall over all of the Panhandle, with up to 3 feet locally through the weekend.  The southern tip of the region will see rain or rain and snow mix by tomorrow.

It is going to be a very windy and snowy next couple days in Southeast.  Three separate storms will impact the area through next week.  Be prepared for heavy snow accumulations and gusty winds.  Wind Chill advisories, High Wind warnings and Winter Storm warnings are in effect. 

Blizzard conditions are likely at times through tonight.
