January 28, 2012|by Kevin Wells | Channel 2 Sports

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The 15th ranked Denver Pioneers scored four first period goals to lead a 6-3 win over UAA on Saturday night and a series sweep in WCHA play.  The loss drops the Seawolves to 3-16-1 in conference action.

Ty Loney scored twice for Denver, the third and fifth goals as Denver built a 5-0 lead early in the second period.  UAA did manage a spirited comeback, getting goals from Daniel Naslund, Quinn Sproule, and Alex Gellert to climb within two goals at the second intermission.  The rally went unanswered in the third, however.

The Seawolves remain last in the 12-team WCHA.  The sweep boosts Denver all the way into sole possession of third place at 10-5-3 in league play.
