Barrow Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting

BARROW, Alaska — A Barrow man was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Monday after allegedly shooting two adults on Saturday morning, according to the North Slope Borough Police Department.

Witnesses told Barrow police that 20-year-old Dave A. Evikana entered a residence at 7724 Yugik Street in Barrow around 3:24 a.m. on Saturday and fired four rounds from a handgun.

According to witnesses, Evikana fled the scene on a black and yellow Ski-doo snow machine.

Police found 26-year-old Sean Z. Gunnells with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg and 20-year-old Jasmine J. Dunbar with a superficial gunshot wound to her lower left leg.

Gunnells and Dubar were taken to Samuel Simmons Memorial Hospital and were treated and released.

North Slope Borough Police arrested Evikana on Monday around 12:30 a.m. without incident.

Evikana was charged with 2 counts of attempted murder in the first degree and 1 count of misconduct involving a weapon in the second degree.
