Fire Destroys Old St. Paul Island Trident Seafoods Plant

February 10, 2012|by Todd Walker | Channel 2 News Reporter

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Fire tore through one of the largest buildings on St. Paul Island, Thursday night; a warehouse that used to function as the Trident Seafoods plant. The building was most recently used for storage.

Residents say the fire started about 10:30pm, Thursday and quickly got out of control.

At midnight the St. Paul Chief of Police, KC Alberg, said fire crews were still on scene trying to tame the fire. Alberg says the building is most likely a total loss.

Alberg says among the items being stored in the building were hazardous chemicals. A resident who lives nearby says drums of oil were kept in the building.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say the current seafood plant is not affected.

Calls placed overnight to Trident Seafoods have not yet been returned.
