Mild Temperatures Abound Heading into the Weekend

February 10, 2012|By: Mitch Sego | Channel 2 Weather

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — One weakening storm system is moving into PWS this morning.  Rain or a rain-snow mix will continue much of the day throughout the Sound.

Clearing skies and 30s will make for a lovely day in the Panhandle before clouds roll back in, along with rain, tonight and tomorrow.

Another low is marching out of the north Pacific toward the Aleutians.  This low will broaden out and weaken a bit as it crosses into the southern Bering over the weekend, but it will keep warmer temps and showers in the forecast for all of the SE, Southcentral and SW regions of the state.

Expect 30s and 40s south, 20s and 30s west, and teens and 20s Interior, with single digits over the Slope today.

Winds and temps will jump late tonight as the next low approaches.  Be advised of blizzard conditions possibly developing down Turnagain Arm and Portage Valley late this evening and through the overnight.  As temps climb above freezing, much of that precipitation should change or mix with rain, thus ending the blizzard threat.

In Anchorage and the Valley, spotty snow showers, locally mixing with sleet or freezing rain, are possible today.  Continue to use an extra dose of caution getting around in the coming days.  In general, plan on highs in the 30s with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated showers through the weekend.
