ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges including murder and vehicle theft in the recent death of a Bethel cab driver, according to court documents released Tuesday.

Kyle Motgin, 21, faces six charges including first-degree and second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, tampering with evidence, vehicle theft and third-degree theft related to the death of 54-year-old Young Suk Chong, who disappeared early in the morning Jan. 31 and was found dead on Feb. 1 in her Taxi Cab Co. vehicle near Napakiak, about 15 miles from Bethel.

Cab drivers who work the late shift in Bethel say Chong’s death still troubles them.

“She was always very nice to me -- she seemed like a very nice lady,” said Kusko Cab driver Galen Dirksen. “Regardless of the person and how well you did or didn’t get along with them, it’s a tragedy nonetheless.”

After the arrival of investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, Motgin was arrested on unrelated charges Feb. 2 and held at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center.

Bethel residents have been frustrated by investigators’ refusal to release Motgin’s name until Tuesday, pending the determination of charges against him related to Chong’s death.
