Another Weaker Storm Makes Its Way into the Gulf

February 16, 2012|By: Mitch Sego | Channel 2 Weather

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A long, washed-out front has pushed over the North Slope.  Meanwhile, yet another, far weaker disturbance is pulling into the western Gulf of Alaska, bringing a return to rain and snow showers and breezy to windy conditions for the southern half of the state today.

Look for more teens, 20s and 30s around the Interior and West.  Most of PWS will top out in the 30s with 40s into SE.

Expect wrap-around moisture into SW once again today.  Rain may mix with snow over Bristol Bay and Kodiak should see more rain than snow.

Anchorage and the Valley are in for cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with highs in the 30s and just a slight chance of flurries or scattered snow showers.  Light mixed precipitation is possible later today and tonight in the Valley.

Today's storm lacks the support of the upper jet, so rain and snow totals will be much lighter than yesterday in Southcentral.  Winds will not be as strong, either.  Expect precipitation to begin to fill in more thoroughly over PWS by the noon hour.

This mildly unsettled pattern will be with us heading into the weekend.
