ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A sexual abuse suspect who shot himself in the head when detectives tried to serve an arrest warrant on him Thursdayhas died, according to Anchorage police.
APD spokesperson Anita Shell says 44-year-old John Fields was rushed to the hospital, but died shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. His arrest warrant was for sexual penetration of a male victim between the ages of 13 and 16.
According to Shell, several agencies have tried to locate Fields’ next of kin, but have not been able to do so. Fields claimed to have been estranged from his family for some time, and state records say he was born in Covington, Ga. Anyone with information on Fields’ next of kin is asked to call APD at 786-8900.
In addition, police ask anyone who may have been victimized by Fields, who often went by the names "Jack" or "John Michael Meyers," to contact investigators at 786-8573.
