Iron Dog Update Day 3 Recap - Teams Reach Nome

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Most of the Iron Dog teams reached Nome on Tuesday and marked the midway point of the 2,000-mile race.

Team #17, McKenna and VanMeter, claimed a $10,000 prize for arriving in Nome around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday followed by Team #10, Morgan and Olds.

The top 3 was rounded off by Team #16, Minnick and Olstad.

Day 3 of the Iron Dog journey also ended several other teams run at the title.

Team #30, Jackson and Hanson, along with Team #7, Sheldon and Wells, scratched in Galena.

Team #39, Aklestad and Loyer, scratched in Unalakleet.

27 teams remain in the Iron Dog Pro Class.

As for the race’s Trail Class, Team 43’s Cliff Johnson and Stacey Green and Team 44’s Jeff and Stacey Dyer were first and second, both arriving at 6:21 p.m., while Team 51 with Evan Booth and Dan Zipay took third place at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.

11 teams signed up for the Trail Class, which runs a 1,000 miles.
