Snow, and Lots of it in Southcentral

February 27, 2012|By: Mitch Sego | Channel 2 Weather

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage, Wasilla and Palmer are just about the only areas of Southcentral that weren't buried in snow over the weekend and now, this morning.

An additional 1 to 5 inches will fall throughout the Cook Inlet region and in PWS.  When this storm clears the area tomorrow, expect totals anywhere from 2 to 4 inches in Anchorage and the Valley, all the way up to 24 to 30 inches along and west of the Susitna Valley, including Willow, Skwentna and Talkeetna, and in the western Kenai Peninsula.

One to two feet will possible in PWS and the northern Panhandle through tomorrow.  Rain will mix with snow in SE later today.

Snow will taper off around Bristol Bay and all of Southwest this afternoon.  Blizzard conditions will persist around King Salmon this morning.  Snow totals in SW will be 6 to 12 inches.

Northerly winds will increase over the western half of the state as bitterly cold air dives in from the Arctic.  Wind chills may be as low as 55 below today and tonight.

The Interior will see snow, especially areas east of Bettles and McGrath.  Fairbanks and surrounding areas could pick up 2 to 4 inches.  Snow will linger through tonight along the Alcan.

This storm has brought some of the heaviest snow totals of the season to areas of the western Kenai Peninsula and the Susitna Valley.  More snow is likely to end the week, as well, in Southcentral.
