March 06, 2012|By Ted Land | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — In response to the Samantha Koenig abduction, The YWCA is holding special self-defense classes.

They’ll be teaching the shredder technique, a multi-faceted approach to self-defense, which uses mind tricks as well as physical aggression to thwart an attack.

"It allows us to strike where it hurts, quickly and effectively, and get out of the way as fast as we can," said Malachi Bond, an instructor.

Classes will be held Tuesday, March 6 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm; and Thursday, March 15 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the YWCA Alaska located at 324 E. 5th Ave. in downtown Anchorage.

Admission is $10, though the group says it will waive the fee for women who cannot afford the course.
