KTUU-TV Names Award-Winning Journalist as News Director

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Tracy Sabo, a veteran journalist with CNN, has been named the new KTUU-TV Channel 2 news director, general manager Andy MacLeod announced on Monday.

Sabo comes to Alaska from Dallas, Tx and a 19-year career with CNN, where she produced both domestic and international coverage. She has worked as the national assignment editor and as a CNN radio anchor at the network's headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.

"Channel 2 News has a tremendous reputation, both inside and outside Alaska for its comprehensive news coverage," Sabo said. "KTUU's news-gathering style parallels my work at CNN in many ways, and I look forward to advancing and enhancing the great tradition of news excellence at Channel 2."

Sabo brings new experience and a love for Alaska with her. She's has visited much of the state while on assignment for CNN, and she has spent many personal vacations here.

In addition to her network experience with CNN, Sabo has been recognized for journalistic achievement throughout her career, including three George Foster Peabody Awards for coverage of the Gulf oil spill, presidential primary and debates and hurricane Katrina.

Sabo is a communications and political science graduate of the University of Tennessee with additional studies at the University of California Los Angeles.

She replaces Tom Lindner, who has been the interim news director at Channel 2 since September 2011. Lindner will assist in the transition before moving to his new post as manager of special projects for Schurz Communications Inc., the parent company of KTUU-TV.

General manager Andy MacLeod said Sabo will start sometime in mid April.

"We are excited to have her aboard," MacLeod said. "She has a mix of journalistic experience and passion for Alaska that will continue the tradition of excellence that makes us Alaska's news source."
