ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Three Alaska cell phone companies will begin offering the iPhone later this month.
Alaska Communications, GCI and MTA all announced Wednesday morning that the Apple's top smartphone will be available for their customers starting April 20.
All three companies will offer the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. GCI will also offer its customers the iPhone 3GS.
All three companies will require a two-year contract.
Until this announcement, AT&T has been the only wireless company in Alaska to offer the iPhone.
In 2007, Alaskans had to wait for months to get the first iPhone. AT&T was then the only company offering the iPhone, and it was in the midst of buying the parent company of Cellular One, which was a cell phone provider in Alaska at the time.
Now, the phone will be available to Alaskans across the state, including those out of AT&T's service area.
Select stores for all three companies are planning a 12:01 a.m. opening on April 20 for customers eager to get their hands on an iPhone.
