ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
A "Color Everywhere Green for Samantha" movement began Wednesday, according to the Facebook page for the event in honor of the abducted barista Samantha Koenig.
On Wednesday afternoon, Anchorage police confirmed that the body recovered from Matanuska Lake on Monday was identified as 18-year-old Samantha Koenig.
Michelle Tasker, Koenig family spokesperson, said she created the page late Tuesday night.
Within a few hours hundreds of respondents had joined the effort, pledging to wear green -- Koenig's favorite color -- or post green ribbons around town to keep Samantha in people's minds.
"My goal is to get the word out -- we'll never forget Samantha," said Heather Jordan, a friend of the Koenig family. She spent Wednesday morning finding various places around town to tie a green ribbon.
Posts on the Facebook page included comments and pictures from residents across Alaska and in other states, as well as in foreign countries.
