ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A U.S. Coast Guard memorial service will be held Wednesday in Kodiak for the two men shot at a communications station last week.

The ceremony will be held in a hangar on base at 1 p.m. and is open to the public, according to spokesperson Petty Officer Charly Hengen.

Investigators were still on-scene Monday at the facility where 51-year-old Richard Belisle and 41-year-old Petty Officer 1st Class James Hopkins were shot and killed Thursday.

The FBI is investigating the crime as a double homicide. No arrests were made by Monday morning and the FBI has not named any suspects.

“Just a few” people in Kodiak have called the Coast Guard expressing concerns about their safety, Hengen said. She said the Coast Guard is telling residents that according to the FBI, there’s no reason to believe anyone is at risk.

The Coast Guard will hold a public town hall meeting Monday at 7 pm in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium in Kodiak to address community concerns.

Local police and Alaska State Troopers will take questions about safety. Coast Guard staff will provide stress management advice.

"The command here just wants to be very open with the public and address any concerns," said Coast Guard Petty Officer Sara Francis.
