April 16, 2012|By KTUU News Staff | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation said a food company has recalled its frozen dried mackerel and dried round scad for a risk of botulism.

H.C. Foods Co., Ltd. announced the recall because the products were not properly eviscerated prior to processing and the foods may be contaminated with clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause botulism – a serious and potentially fatal foodborne illness.

The fish were sold nationwide to wholesale distributors and at retail outlets under the Pacific Isles Brand from the Philippines.

The following products include:

•    Dried Mackerel (Hasa Hasa) under the Pacific Isles Brand from the Philippines pack in 8 oz. Product package in plastic bags / lot or code on the product label. Lot# 3298 and Lot# 0760
•    Dried Round Scad (Galunggong) under the Pacific Isles Brand from the Philippines in 8 oz. Product package in plastic bags / lot or code on the product label. Lot# 3228 and Lot# 3168
