Anchorage Library Amnesty Day: Overdue Materials Fines Waived

April 19, 2012|By Clinton Bennett | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Fines for overdue materials were waived at any Anchorage public library for one day only – April 18, 2012.

It was the first time in twenty-five years the library system said it will be forgiving fines for patrons with overdue materials.

Books and other overdue material were returned at any of the five library locations without penalty.

The amnesty applied only to items turned in April 18 and not to outstanding fines already on your record.

The amnesty event was a way of recognizing a significant gift by a longtime library fan and philanthropist Alfred Hanisch who died a couple of years ago.

The library said it was a way to celebrate his generosity with patrons.
