Unsettled and Cool Weather Sticks Around for the Weekend

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Snow continues to be the story in Alaska---and we're not done with it yet. Not even close.

We warned you of the threat of snow returning to the Great Land this week back in April. Sure enough, snow and cold temps have buffeted the bulk of the state. As of this morning, the SE Panhandle is now the only part of the state to avoid this bout of Spring snow.

Burst of snow in Southcentral were observed yesterday with only minor accumulations. Most areas have seen little to no accumulation. However, many villages along the Alaska Peninsula, lower and upper Kuskokwim, Copper River Basin, far eastern Interior, and Norton Sound region have measured accumulations.

Sparse rain and snow showers are again in store for Southwest and Southcentral. Anchorage and the Valley will remain dry but cool, with the isolated shower activity staying over the mountains. Highs will reach the upper 40s.

Brutally cold air continues to plunge southward over western AK in response to a strengthening upper low dropping out of the north Bering this morning. Temps have been below zero in Kotzebue to start the day. Highs will range from near 10 along the Arctic Slope to 20s around Bethel and the lower Kusko.

The Aleutians are in for cold 30s with scattered showers.

While the Interior will warm a few degrees from yesterday with most dry weather, the Panhandle will cool a bit into the 40s for highs and see a better chance for scattered rain showers later this afternoon.

Interior AK will experience warmer temps in the coming days, but, in general, unseasonably cold and unsettled weather will hang on into next week,
