Anchorage, AK — An Alaska Highway car crash killed a Wasilla man and his cousin last week, his mom tells Channel 2 News.
Kathy Merkt says her son, 22-year-old Brad Merkt, and his 27-year-old cousin, Brian Quammen, died Tuesday night in Canada.
Merkt and Quammen were in a Ford Focus, driving just south of Fort Nelson when Kathy Merkt says it drove head on into a pick-up truck. The truck's 21-year-old driver was taken to the hospital.
According to his mother, Merkt lived in Wasilla since he was 16-years-old, and he and his cousin were driving down to Oklahoma to be with his family. Kathy Merkt says her daughter was supposed to be in the car with her son.
To help the family with funeral expenses, a donation box has been set up at the North Bowl bowling alley on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
