Eagle River Moose Attack Victim Tells Her Story

May 30, 2012|By Jason Lamb | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — 11-year-old Kelsey Laurin detailed her Monday encounter with a moose in Eagle River, after it attacked her and another friend, Chloe Metzger.

Kelsey showed Channel 2 around the backyard playset that she and Chloe were playing around when the moose attacked.  Kelsey says she thinks the two accidentally got in between the moose and her calf, causing it to charge them.

"I was just standing there in like shock," Kelsey said about first seeing the moose.  "It didn't even seem real."

The force knocked both of them over, as well as the wooden playset.

While the moose attack gave Kelsey minor injuries, Chloe's were more serious.

"All I really want to say is I hope she gets better soon," Kelsey said about Chloe.

Chloe Metzger's mother says Chloe is continuing to recover in the hospital after another surgery she had Wednesday to repair damage to her collarbone and muscle in the upper arm, caused by the moose repeatedly stomping on her.  Providence officials say her condition has improved from fair to good.
