ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Soldotna all-terrain vehicle driver trying to outrun a dog was severely injured Tuesday evening when his four-wheeler rolled over, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The Soldotna Public Safety Communication Center received a 911 call from a witness reporting the crash of 56-year-old Jesse Evans’ Honda 200 ATV, which was headed west on Helgeson Avenue in Soldotna, at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday.
“A dog from a neighboring house began chasing Evans' four wheeler, which caused him to speed up,” troopers wrote in a Wednesday AST dispatch. “Evans lost control of the four wheeler and rolled it over in the roadway.”
The witness initiated life-saving procedures on Evans under a dispatcher’s guidance, while troopers and paramedics responded to the scene. Evans, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Troopers with the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.
