Search for Missing Service Dog Comes to a Sad End

June 01, 2012|Mike Ross | Channel 2 News

The search for a missing service dog, that was helping a young boy with autism, came to a sad end Friday night.

"Abby", a specially trained service dog that belonged to eight-year-old Wyatt Reinhart of wasilla , vanished last week.

Wyatt's family feared that Abby might have been stolen, and friends along with concerned animal lovers launched an extensive search and efforts on social media to find the missing dog.

Jamie Holloway, Wyatt's older sister, contacted Channel 2 News Friday evening with word that Abby was found dead in a lake near their home.

Holloway says a neighbor made the discovery while walking near the lake. Wyatt's family says Abby apparently wandered away and drowned.

The family said earlier this week they had saved for years to buy the dog, and they considered her to be a member of their family.
