ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Anchorage Police Department Tuesday evening released the name of the officer who shot and killed 26-year-old Shane Tasi Saturday night in Mountain View.
According to police, Patrol Officer Boaz Gionson drew his service weapon and fatally shot Tasi as he aggressively approached him with a stick.
Gionson has been on the force since 2007. The Department of Law will determine whether it was a justified or non-justified shooting and whether or not Officer Gionson followed APD policy.
Many in the community are wondering why the man wasn't shot in the arm or the leg to disable him. Police are saying part of their training is to shoot to eliminate the threat.
