ANCHORAGE, Alaska — For the first time this year, Anchorage hit the 70s for a high temperature yesterday. And there's a lot more where that came from.
High pressure dominates the Bering Sea and north Pacific. This ridging extends into the rest of Alaska and strengthens over the far northeast corner of the state. This is providing a warm and stagnant weather pattern to most areas.
Temps will top out in the 50s to near 60 along the west coast with partly to mostly sunny skies. Southwest will reach the 50s and 60s near the Bristol Bay to 70s inland. Expect 70s to near 80 in the Interior with late day showers and thunderstorms from Fairbanks southward.
Weak thermal troughing in the afternoon and evening hours will keep a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms around for Southcentral. With the stronger thunderstorms, small hail, gusty straightline outflow winds, and brief downpours are possible. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s
