FAIRBANKS, Alaska — It was truly a midnight special for the Alaska Baseball League's original franchise.
The Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks prevailed in a 7-5 decision over the Washington Everett Merchants in Thursday night's 107th annual Midnight Sun Baseball Game.
Casey Munoz, a sophomore form Santa Clara, collected three hits, including the go-ahead two run single in the seventh inning for the Panners.
The summer solstice tradition begins annually at 10:30 p.m. on June 21st and is played entirely without the benefit of artificial lights.
Fans and players enjoyed friendly conditions on Thursday evening, with bright sun at the game's onset and warm temperatures.
