ANCHORAGE, Alaska — It was time to celebrate the life of former lawmaker Cheryll Heinze as family and friends gathered in Anchorage Monday evening . Heinze was killed July 10th in a plane crash on Beluga Lake in Homer.
The gathering took place at the Legacy Funeral Home on Bragaw where a lifetime of photographs and memorabilia were on display showing the life and times of a woman who was known as much more than a politician. Heinze was known for her oil paintings and other artwork - she was also a poet.
Her husband Harold Heinze told Channel 2 News that her family, the Borens, "where noted for basically three things - they were painters, politicians and preachers ". He went on to say that "her father was a preacher but she got the painter and politician bug".
He also said that his wife would be remembered for the wonderful , almost naively way, she greeted everyone as a friend - he added " that's the way she greeted the world".
