The Mazz Man Cometh Back To The Aces

July 25, 2012|by Kevin Wells | Channel 2 Sports

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — One week after locking down their top goal scorer from last season, the Alaska Aces re-sign their 2011-12 leader in assists. Nick Mazzolini, a native of Anchorage, returns to the Aces for next year.

Mazzolini put up 21 goals and a team-high 35 assists last season for 56 points, third most on the club behind Dan Kissel and Wes Goldie. His vision of the ice makes him a premier playmaker.

Mazzolini has had tough luck in his Aces tenure. He led the club in scoring during the 2009-10 campaign, but then played the following year in Italy while the next group of Aces won the Kelly Cup. Then last season, he was part of the Alaska team that led the league in regular season points before coming up short in the Western Conference Finals against Las Vegas.

Mazzolini and the Aces open the 2012-13 season October 12th against the Colorado Eagles.
