Arctic Thunder 2012 Air Show Sees Record Number

July 28, 2012|By Christine Kim | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson spokesperson said a rough estimate of 100,000-150,000 people showed up Saturday to admire the aircraft in the skies and on the ground. Some said they've never seen this many people at the air show before.

Luke Waack, JBER Special Affairs, said cars filled more than 13,500 parking spaces today. At one point they had to start turning people away because there was no more room on base.

Waack advises people planning to come to the air show Sunday, to get there early in the day, bring sunscreen and lawn chairs.

Gates open Sunday at 9 a.m.
